A Variety of Vessels
People use the many different types of glass to make scientific instruments.
One of the most common instruments is the test tube. It is a long, narrow
container made of thin glass. It is used to heat and store liquids. Beakers
are larger containers that can stand on their own. They have wide openings
and small spouts for pouring. Funnels are pipes with wide necks and narrow
stems. They are used to channel liquids into vessels with small openings.
Flasks have large bases and small necks. Substances are often heated in flasks.
A Fleaker® is a combination of a flask and a beaker!
