Glass vessels have been used in research for many centuries. Some of
those vessels are named after the people who invented them.

                                        Kipp Gas Generator

Petrus Kipp was a pharmacist. He lived in
the Netherlands. Kipp invented the Kipp gas
Kipp gas generator in 1844. The Kipp generator
                        generator
has three glass globes. It creates gas
when a cold liquid reacts with a
                                      solid material. Scientists often
                                      need gas for experiments.
                                      The Kipp gas generator
is easy to use. It helps
                                      scientists make gas when
                                      they need it.

              Smith Fermentation Tubes

Theobald Smith was an American scientist.
He was an expert on bacteria. He wanted to help Smith
people stop getting sick from bacteria in water. So, fermentation
                                                                      tube
he designed the glass fermentation tube. It was
              used to identify bacteria in
              drinking water before
              people drank it.
              Health departments
              used his design to
              make sure water
              was safe to drink.
